Welcome to Australia! From Bali, we couldn't resist dropping in to the Northern Territory en route to Sydney. We hired a car and spent a week driving around the national parks. This page has the photographic evidence... You can view these pictures as a slideshow here. (This link opens a new browser window. This may be a problem if you have a pop-up blocker installed.) |

Small Croc Takes A Bite Our first tourist excursion in Darwin was the Crocodile Cruise, which involved riding on a boat on a croc infested river and watching them leap out of the water while our guides dangled bait over the water. It was quite a sight and up until this point I had no idea that crocs could actually do that. Needless to say this increased my fear of being eaten at some point. |

Big Croc Takes A Bite This was also our first contact with the native man-eaters of Australia. |

A Walk Along the River-bank Our first contact with the Australian croc without the aid or protection of a boat was in Kakadu National Park, 3 hours out of Darwin. Everywhere you went in this park there were signs warning people to stay away from the water's edge and not to swim. When you actually get to spot one of these things you start to wonder how anyone can even think of swimming anywhere let alone in these rivers. |

Typical NT Scenery The park encompasses quit a large area so we spent most of our time there on treks and walks into it's heart, and driving ourselves round the rest of the time. |

Kakadu Sunrise on the River We took a sunrise boat ride to catch the amazing bird-life that comes out at this hour. The lakes and rivers were pretty amazing in the dawn mist... |

The Bush Graveyard Litchfield is the neighbouring park to Kakadu, even though they are miles apart. One of the most spectacular features are the huge anthills that can be found on its vast open plains. Some of them were over 4 metres high and they made areas of the park look like huge graveyards in the distance. |

Camp Breakfast Our accommodation for the duration of our time in Kakadu and Litchfield was a tent in various bush campsites. The only negative thing about this form of accommodation in this part of Australia is the mosquitoes. We were swarmed every night and it got to the point where even the repellent stopped working. In fact we were convinced that it was acting as a condiment and just added a bit of spice to their meal. |

A Croc Swims Past Our Boat This is where we got to see crocs being fed live chickens... just kidding, they weren't alive. Plus we got to eat a croc burger, which had quite an interesting taste to it. In other words I have no idea of how to describe it, it was a little chewy though. |
